The eCYBERMISSION Program

Deanna Figiel, U.S. Army eCYBERMISSION Program

Thursday, June 12th, 8:00 AM
Non Profit Building, Westminster

The eCYBERMISSION program is a U.S. Army-sponsored, web-based science, math and technology competition, that allows students in grades six through nine to compete for regional and national awards, while working to solve problems in their community. Now in its sixth year, eCYBERMISSION has awarded more than $4 million in prize money in support of the science, math and technology leaders of tomorrow. Since its inception, more than 46,000 students from across the country, U.S. territories and Department of Defense Education Activity schools worldwide have participated in the competition. This year, 1,763 teams, comprised of 6,384 students, submitted their research for judging.

The eCYBERMISSION program requires the support of dedicated Volunteers to support the execution of the program. eCYBERMISSION Volunteers make the program a success by promoting the competition, serving as on-line mentors and scoring Mission Folders. For the 2008-2009 competition cycle, the eCYBERMISSION Volunteer Program requires the support of three Volunteer types:

  • Ambassadors*: Individuals who serve as the "Face of eCYBERMISSION" by promoting the competition and recruiting other Volunteers in their community
  • CyberGuides*: Provide on-line assistance to eCYBERMISSION teams by answering questions and providing guidance through the use of Discussion Forums, Chat Rooms and Instant Messaging.
  • Virtual Judges: Individuals with an interest or background in science, math, technology or education who independently evaluate team Mission Folders on-line
  • Team Advisors: Assist Student teams with registration, Mission Challenge selections and Mission Folder submission, and provide guidance during project development

* Active DoD Security Clearance required.

Deanna Figiel has a decade of progressive experience supporting marketing, strategic communications, and event management for public and private sector organizations. Currently, Ms. Figiel is the Volunteer Program Manager for the U.S. Army's eCYBERMISSION Program.
