Ignite Carroll 13 brings together community members for an evening of fast-paced, 5-minute Talks. The format is fixed—20 slides, 15 seconds each—but the topics are limitless. Expect to be informed, entertained, and inspired as speakers share their minds, stories, and passions. It’s a night of surprises, laughter, and connection—five minutes at a time.

Ignite Carroll 13 will be the evening of Thursday, October 16th at 1623 Brewing Co.

The Story of Ignite

The Ignite concept grew from an idea between two friends in a Seattle bar. Brady Forrest and Bre Pettis found themselves brainstorming ways to make events more engaging and accessible, and one night, their discussions evolved into a challenge: What if presentations were fast, energetic, and stripped of unnecessary fluff?

With that in mind, they developed a 20-slide format, each slide advancing every 15 seconds - presentation constraints that keep speakers sharp and audiences captivated.

The first Ignite event, held in 2006, drew in a crowd of curious and enthusiastic individuals who came to hear great ideas. The energy in the room confirmed they were onto something special, and what started as an experiment between two friends quickly evolved into a concept that inspires and challenges speakers worldwide.

Apply to Speak

It’s hard to explain exactly what an Ignite talk is, because it can be so many things. So, we've made a wish list of Talks we would like to hear before you go getting any ideas.

  1. The five worst meals you’ve ever shared
  2. Things (expected and unexpected) you can hold to your ear and hear the ocean through
  3. The journey of becoming one of those people who climb power line poles
  4. How to build picture frames

Basically, if it’s something you care about or you find interesting, it’s fair game. There's no idea for Ignite Talk that is too big or too small.

Speakers will be invited to receive support for their work through cohort and AI experiences.

  • AI for Writing Workshop I
  • AI for Writing Workshop II

  • Tour of Community Media Center

Speakers will be given a professionally produced video copy of their talk, a digital badge from Ignite HQ, and a gift from CTIC for completing AI curriculum and creating a story for Ignite.
