Tom welcomed everyone and attendees introduced themselves.

Award winning Liberty High School Robo-Lions, a Carroll County FIRST (For the Inspiration and Recognition of Science & Technology) team made a presentation. The team recently attended the Chesapeake Regional Competition in July, 2009. Robo-Lion's (Team 2199) mission is to better the community through the education of its students, relying on immersing members in a real-world engineering environment.
Currently the team has 47 members.
Robo-Lions 2009 Competition Results: The Robo-Lions attended two regional competitions for the first time, placing 6th at the DC regional and 2nd at the Chesapeake regional. Received the 2009 GM Industrial Design Award and were invited to attend the 2009 Indiana Robotics Invitational.
Team goals: Expand to FIRST LEGO Leagues particularly at feeder school Oklahoma Middle School; Partner with CTC, businesses and foundations. Recruit volunteers, develop internships, grants and scholarships for team and students.
Maryland FIRST coordinator Bill Duncan shared that there are 28 MD teams and 1700 teams in the US.

Ron reminded everyone that the members-only group meets regularly on the 2nd and 4th Friday mornings at 8 am in Eldersburg at Martins. Contact Scott Adelman or Ron Harrington for more information.

Bob Dorr reported the next CompuKids Donation Day is November 7th at 10 am. Bob thanked Quantum Internet Services for providing dial up internet access for the CompuKids families. Contact Bobby Keller or Tracy to arrange to help.

Denise announced new evening seminars beginning January 21 at 7:00 - 8:30 pm at the Carroll Non-Profit Center. Any member or members who are interested in teaching this course should contact Denise.

The CTC survey will be reviewed and recommendations considered. All members are encouraged to submit a completed survey.
Carroll County Times articles
Tracy encouraged members to write articles. Articles should be 450-500 words and be on a topic of general interest to the public. - Nominating Committee

Past President Ron Harrington is the committee chair, with members Bob Dorr and Bob Cage. Two executive committee positions - Vice President and Secretary will be up for election. Four board seats are also up for election - current candidates are Scott Adelman, Dave Buie, Kevin Brown, Bill Eyler, Bill Murphy, Judy Stem, and Jerry Tabeling.

Chair Bob Dorr said the committee has confirmed U. S. Representative Roscoe Bartlett as the guest speaker. The event will be Saturday, November 14th at the Best Western Conference Center. Members are asked to attend and help promote dinner ticket sales and sponsorships. Nominations for Techie of the Year and Tech Company of the Year are closed.

- 4-H Technology Club is hosting a VEX Robotics competition on Sat October 31st 9am - 4:30 pm with about 27 teams participating.
- Feb 26th and 27th, 2010 150 teams are expected at the Mid-Atlantic VEX competition to be held at the Westminster Shipley Arena.
- Carroll County Department of Economic Development and Carroll County Chamber of Commerce are hosting the third annual Business Appreciation Awards program on Nov. 6th. Community and business members are encouraged to attend.
