General Announcements

Introductions

Tom and Tracy welcomed everyone. Attendees introduced themselves.

Program

Larry Twele, Director of Carroll County Department of Economic Development profiled the local economy and existing program and services. Looking forward, Mr. Twele said that despite the economic downturn several new development projects are still moving ahead with planning and engineering. In Eldersburg, St. John Properties has submitted plans for the Liberty Business Exchange an office park located on MD 26 at the old Liberty Golf driving range. This park will provide much needed office space in Eldersburg.

Carroll County Times Articles

Tracy encouraged members to write articles. Articles should be 450-500 words and be on a topic of general interest to the public.

Ambassador

Mike Shelah welcomed visitors and new member John Scott from Advantage Engineering and IT Solutions, Inc. in Eldersburg. Mike is working on the summer picnic and an upcoming movie nigh and welcomes volunteers to help with these events.

Business Roundtable

Ron announced the meetings are the 2nd and 4th Friday mornings at 8 am at the Nonprofit Center or in Eldersburg. The March 13th meeting will be held at Martin’s Café in Eldersburg. The group brainstorms about business challenges and shares business leads and opportunities. Contact Scott for more information.

CompuKids

Bob Dorr shared that the next CompuKids work day is May 2nd from 9 am - 1 pm and the next Donation Day is May 16th at 10 am. Contact Bobby Keller or Tracy to arrange to help.

Education

The CTC spring courses will be an Adobe Suite of programs including

  • Illustrator for basic logo development
  • Photoshop for photo editing and manipulation
  • InDesign for compiling the design elements into flyers, brochures, business cards, etc.

Dates will be sent out as soon as they are confirmed. All of the courses are offered exclusively to CTC members through a Carroll county Department of Economic Development grant. Members are asked to sign up early and show up if scheduled to attend.

Matt Day from Carroll Community College is still accepting companies who want to participate in the summer High School Information Technology program. Contact Matt to sign up to host student job shadow experiences and mock interviews.

CTC will participate in the TEEN EXPO at the Shipley Arena on April 11th by providing a seminar for parents and students on computer safety.

Golf

Ron relayed that the golf tournament is a major CTC fund raising event. It will be held on May 14th at The Links at Challedon 7:30 am check-in 8:30 am Shotgun start. An After Golf Networking Barbeque will be held from 12:00 – 3:00 pm for $20.00.

Gold Sponsorship $1000 – one foursome; after-golf passes and hole sign

$400 per foursome/$100 per golfer

Need 25 foursomes to participate.
We also need volunteers for the day; please let Judy know if you can volunteer.
Also, we need donations for the golfer goodie bags..

Marketing

Tom shared that Chairman Rich Waganer has bee actively meeting with committee members and they have decided on the new CTC slogan: Right Here, Right Now.
 
Carroll Magazine will feature Masquerade Ball highlights and Kohn Creative has also donated an ad for the upcoming golf tournament

TAC

Planning for future seminars is being considered. The next committee meeting is Tuesday March 17th at 4:30 pm at InfoPathways.

Technically Speaking
Judy gave an overview of the upcoming events and asked that any members who had event ideas to please contact her.
Technically Speaking Dinner

Tracy said that we are still looking for a Chairperson and the dinner will again be held at the Best Western.

Masquerade Ball

A wrap-up meeting will be held today following the membership meeting. The Ball netted $1,000 and promoted CTC to the community at-large.

Member Announcements
  • Jeff Selby invited everyone to attend the DP Solutions IT Play Day on May 14th where vendors (Xerox, Toshiba, etc.) will showcase new technologies.
  • Bob Dorr announced the VEX Robotics competition at AG Center on March 14th and the March 24th Chesapeake Robotics competition at the Cole Field House in Annapolis.
  • Judy announced a Carroll and Howard County BNI get together on March 23rd at 4:30 pm at Turf Valley.
  • Jeff Selby encouraged members to volunteer for the Maryland Business Roundtable for Education speaking opportunities. See www.mbrt.org for more information and contact Denise Beaver to register for fall 2009 training.
  • Tom announced Westminster FallFest Gala on April 4th; Fallfest charities this year are Mission of Mercy, Carroll County Youth Services Bureau, Rape Crisis, and Westminster Lions Club.

    Member meeting on September 10, 2009. Speaker Mike Shelah from XO Communications will present.

    Reminder: There will be no May 14th Membership meeting. All members and guests are encouraged to participate in the golf tournament and the After-Golf Networking Barbeque at The Links at Challedon on May 14th.
