Members introduced themselves.

Program

Dr. Faye Pappalardo, President and Chief Executive Officer of Carroll Community College, spoke about Carroll Community College's process for advancing technology on campus through the use of their "Technology Advisory Group". This group makes recommendations to the President for the CCC five year technology plan.

Under Dr. Pappalardo's administration, the College has experienced remarkable growth and has held the distinction in past few years as the fastest growing community college in Maryland, primarily serving Carroll County students.

New programs are researched prior to implementation and CCC is currently preparing for approval for an engineering program.

Committee Reports

Ambassador
Mike welcomed guest visitors Hugh Delaney, Art King and Rich Nichols.
CompuKids
Bob Dorr shared CompuKids work day is scheduled for Nov. 8th. Next Donation Day is Nov. 22nd, with set-up on Nov. 21st. Contact Bobby Keller or Tracy to arrange to help.
Total donation to date is about 500 computers to local school-age children.
The Shop with a Cops program is expected to schedule another 7-10 families this fall who will also receive computers on the November 22nd donation day.
Education
Denise announced that the Professional Development Series for fall 2008 is as follows:
Business Applications of Quick Books Pro: Oct. 28th and 30th 6:00 - 9:15 pm
Microsoft OneNote Nov. 18th 6:00 - 9:00 pm
Marketing Applications of Adobe Photoshop Nov. 6th and 13th
These courses are listed on the CTC website and offered exclusively to CTC members through an economic development grant. Members are asked to sign up early and show up if scheduled to attend.
Networking Group
Jerry Tabeling is a part of the group and asked members who were interested in joining to contact Scott Adelman. There are 5-6 current members and meetings are held the second and fourth Friday mornings of each month at the Non-Profit Center.

Upcoming Events

Technically Speaking
The State of the Tech Council is presented and the dinner is the second largest CTC fundraiser. It is scheduled for Nov 15th at 6:00 pm at the Best Western Hotel and Conference Center.
Each dinner ticket will include two mixed drink tickets this year. Beer and wine is also provided.

Tracy announced that CTC was taking nominations for Techie of the Year and Tech Company of the Year which will be presented that evening. Contact Tracy or Rich to nominate an individual or company.
Westminster FallFest
Ron reported that 26 members volunteered to staff the CTC booth. Free books, donated by Carroll Community College, were distributed and a sold raffle tickets raffle for a 32" Toshiba HDTV. The jousting attraction was canceled and replaced with an inflatable obstacle course that CTC volunteers helped to staff.
Masquerade Ball
Tom announced that the Mardi Gras-style Masquerade Ball will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2009 at Martins from 7:00 - 12:00 pm. Costumes are preferred. The event will kick off a year of celebrations to commemorate CTC's 5 year anniversary.
Nominating Committee
Isabel announced the slate of candidates as President - Tom Canon; Treasurer - Donya Oneto; Board of Directors: Mike Shelah, Fran Hanyok, Bob Cage, Rich Waganer, Scott Adelman, Phil Cornblatt, David Shaffer, and Bob Dorr.

Member Announcements

  • BERC HR Recruitment & Retention series on disaster planning to be held on October 17th and a presentations on assistive technologies and hiring veterans will be on Nov. 21st. Contact Kathy Anderson at 410.386.2820 to sign up.
  • Ron asked for board member nominations from the floor and receiving none, declared the nominations closed.
