General Announcements

Introductions

Jeannine opened the meeting and attendees introduced themselves. The previously scheduled speaker had an emergency and was unable to attend.

Committee Reports

Ambassador
Mike welcomed new member Jason Tyler of Jet Software, LLC; Molly & Joe from bytes&words and David Hodgdon from Hassle Free It Services.

Ambassador committee members Will and Mike are seeking new committee members.

A New Member orientation is scheduled for Feb. 7th at 6:00 PM at Non-Profit Center. All members are encouraged to attend, however please let Jeannine know if you are planning to attend.
CompuKids
Jeannine announced that a CompuKids Donation Day is on Feb 23 with 10 families currently scheduled.

CTC is donating computers to Head Start: 15 computers for children and three for administrative staff next Friday.
Golf
The 2008 CTC Golf Tournament will be held on May 15th at The Links at Challedon. Sponsorship packages are now available. Sponsors and participants will receive membership value, fun, and help to support organizational fundraising by participating. A new luncheon mixer for golfers and non-golfers will be held at 1:00 pm.
Education
Denise announced the CTC Professional Development program has been approved to begin February 2008. Tips and Tricks for Windows VISTA is scheduled for February 12th. Jeannine is handling registration. Four courses will be offered this spring at no cost to CTC members and will include: VISTA, MS OneNote, QuickBooks Pro and Business Applications and Adobe Photoshop and Applications in Marketing.
Technology Advisory Committee
The Council of Governments' (COG) Data Management seminar is Wednesday, January 16th. The goal is to have 20-30 attendees from municipalities. The first seminar will be presented by Thom Bethune, Ken Harris, Doug Heck, and Jeff Selby. The initial seminar will be followed by seminars on communications and disaster recovery planning.

Announcements can be added. All members should add Fran (fschinzel@lhinfo.com) and Jeannine (jeannine@carroltechcouncil.org) to their press release distribution list so the news can be posted on the CTC Tech news page. A subscription option for Tech Note is now available on the CTC home page.
2007 Technically Speaking Dinner and Fundraiser
Technically Speaking Committee Chairman Richard Lord said 100 people attended the event.

Plans for next year are underway (Tentative date is set for November 15th). If any members want to join the committee, see Richard Lord. 2008 sponsorship packages will again include dinner tickets and pre/post event recognition.
Techie of the Year Nominations
2007 Techie of the Year is Bob Dorr (Bobby Keller and Mike Shelah were nominees).

2007 Tech Company of the Year is Lighthouse Information Systems (Teltek Systems and InfoPathways, LLC were nominees).

The Technically Speaking video produced by Waganer Digital Video was shown.
What's New
A potential new fundraiser is being researched - a Masquerade Ball in Fall 08. Committee members are needed. Email tcanon@westminsterfallfest.com to volunteer.
Fight the Tech Tax Coalition
CTC Board voted to have CTC join Fight The Tax Coalition initiative sponsored by the Tech Council of Maryland, GBTC, and others.

See the website for all details and members are encouraged to contact local delegation members to urge them to support a repeal of the tax.
Tech Council Trivia Contest Winner
Barbara Schmidt won the $25.00 Olive Garden gift certificate. Future contests will be decided via a drawing at the meeting from all members who respond to the contest.

Member Announcements

  • Mark Ripper form Carroll County Government said that if you received the Maryland Property Tax Assessment notice to apply for the Homestead Tax Credit, you must complete the application to retain that credit.

  • Will Ferguson announced that he is hosting a Happy Hour on Jan. 24th at 4:30pm at Johansson's.

  • Mollie McCormick from bytes & words announced that they have some table-top displays available. Contact Mollie or Joe or visit their website at www.bytesnwords.com.

  • David Hodgdon of Hassle Free IT Services announced a customer referral program incentive of $1,000.

  • Tom Cannon announced that FallFest will be adding two new car show events this year.

  • Thank you to member Carol Lee Putnam and Carroll Hospital Center who donated 50 new keyboards to the CompuKids program.

  • Bob Dorr announced that the Chesapeake Regional Robotics Competition will be held on March 13-15 at the US Naval Academy in Annapolis. Jeannine noted that CTC donated $300 and a laptop to the Sparks Robotics so they could compete.

  • Jeff Selby announced that DP Solutions seminars are available to CTC members - a seminar on EVault is scheduled for 2/28. See DP Solutions website for details.
