General Announcements
- Introductions
Jeannine opened the meeting and introduced the Executive committee.
Denise Beaver, Deputy Director of the Carroll County Department of Economic Development (CCDED) and Chair of the CTC Education committee gave an introduction of CCDED's commitment to work with Carroll Community College to offer advanced technology training exclusively for members.
Marlene Titus, Manager of the Miller Small Business Center at Carroll Community College talked briefly about some of the course ideas and encouraged members to complete the Education survey and turn in to Jeannine at the close of the meeting.
- Maryland Technology Development Corporation (TEDCO) Funding Programs
Ron Kaese, Senior Program Manager, Federal Lab Partnerships Technology Showcases - A Technology Transfer and Federal Marketplace Event Preventing, Diagnosing and Treating Cancer: Working with Industry to Promote Public Health on Thursday, Sept. 25; 7 am- 4 pm at Marriott Bethesda North Hotel Register: www.marylandtedco.org Cost: $60.00Next Technology Showcase to be held October 31st at JHU Applied Physics Lab on communications and software of JHU and NSA.
SBIR 101 workshops will be held on Dec 17 and 18. Workshops include a Business Boot Camp for companies new to SBIR funding.
Corporation Funding Programs for Technology Transfer, New Product Development and Commercialization and TEDCO's Entrepreneurial Assistance Programs - See attached flyers for detailed program descriptions.
- Microsoft Across America
Matt Day, Coordinator of Computer Training at Carroll Community College spoke about the MS Across America event on Sept. 21st. The event is geared toward IT professionals and small business owners that need help with technology. Attendees must register online. Volunteers are needed for seminar presentations and general assistance. CTC members can also set up display booths on site. Contact Matt if you want to present, volunteer or set up a display. Committee Reports
- Ambassador
- Mike Sheelah welcomed the new members and reminded everyone about the upcoming picnic on Sept. 19th at Teltek.
- CompuKids
- Work day 70 computers prepped. Still need speakers and PCI fax modems. Sixteen families received computers in August. CCPS recently donated 100 computers. See Events to volunteer for upcoming CompuKids work days. Students can receive community service hours for helping on works. By the end of 2007, nearly 300 computers will have been distributed.
- Golf
- Ron said golf tournament netted over $17,000. The 2008 outing will be held on May 15th at The Links at Challedon.
- Nominating
- Bob Cage is the Nominations Committee Chairman. A slate of Officers and Directors will be presented at the October meeting so if anyone wants to be a Board member or Officer they should submit their name to Bob. Elections will be held during the November membership meeting by balloting of members present. One additional member of the committee is needed.
- Technology Advisory Committee
- The date for Council of Governments' (COG) Seminar is set for January 16th. Goal is to have 20-30 attendees from municipalities. The first seminar will focus on data management, followed by seminars on communications, and disaster recovery planning. Members are encouraged to join the committee.
- Website
- Isabel again encouraged members to submit news to be featured on the website.
- 2007 Technically Speaking Dinner and Fundraiser
Technically Speaking Committee Chairman Richard Lord provided information about the upcoming annual dinner and fundraising event at Best Western. Sponsor packages are: Producer $1,500 (receive 10 tickets), Director $1,000 (receive 4 tickets) and Rising Star $500 (receive 2 tickets). Sponsorship packages will include dinner tickets and pre/post event recognition. Sponsorships and tickets are available on the CTC website. Dress is Black tie optional.
Jeannine mentioned two awards will be presented this year:
Techie of the Year - Nominees of this award should be CTC members who volunteer their time and energy to support the Tech Council in ways that go above and beyond typical volunteer efforts. These are people who not only do what they say they are going to do, but often do much more. They care deeply about the Tech Council and it shows by their willingness to support many CTC efforts and events throughout the entire year.
Tech Company of the Year - Nominees of this award should be companies that are members of the CTC who have done the most to support the growth and mission of the Tech Council. These are companies that have graciously donated their time, resources and expertise to the CTC and by doing so have allowed the CTC to evolve, strengthen and grow.
Individual and company nominations should be sent to Jeannine by October 15th. Winners will be announced at the dinner.

Tuesday, October 16th Boscov's Friends Helping Friends Scholarship Fundraiser - See Jeannine for tickets to sell. Turn in $$ by Oct. 1. Goal is to raise $1,000 for two $500 scholarships to be awarded to Carroll Community College students majoring in computer science, engineering, mathematics or any of the sciences.
Saturday, December 8th - Technically Speaking Dinner 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm at the Westminster Best Western.
Member Announcements
- Denise announced the Carroll County Business & Employment Resource Center Fall Job Fair on October 17 from 2:30 pm - 5:30 pm at 224 N. Center Street in Westminster. Contact Denise Rickell at 410-386-2820 to sign up.
- Denise provided information on the Defense Information System Agency's "Forecast to Industry 2007" event on Monday, Sept. 24 from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. in Arlington, VA.
- Jeannine reminded everyone to visit and contribute to the CTC forum which is on the CTC homepage. Everyone should have a Log in, but if you do not remember it, contact Jeannine.
- Dave Franc is coordinating volunteers to help with the FIRST Robotics competition next spring. See him if you are interested in volunteering.
- David Shaffer mentioned that Tier One is hiring. See him for position details.
