General Announcements

Introductions

Jeannine opened the meeting with member introductions and posed the following question: What is the most recent technology-related course you've taken and why did you take it? If you are considering taking another class - what are you planning to take?

We learned that a lot of the CTC members are self taught. Some use Carroll Community College Business Training Center and others prefer vendor sponsored training on specific programs like Adobe, MS products, Dell training, .Net or purchase books on new applications like Ruby on Rails.

Education Committee

Denise discussed some program ideas the Education committee is considering to offer exclusively for CTC members and asked for input from members.

D. Heck suggested CCC look at offering Bachelor's level courses. Isabel DeFeo is developing a Technical Writing course to be offered at CCC in which some members expressed interest. A few members mentioned Fireworks as a course they are interested in taking.

The Education committee will be meeting in the next month to consider other educational program options. If anyone has ideas for educational seminars or classes, please email them to Denise.

Matt Day, Coordinator of Computer Training at Carroll Community College spoke about the MS Across America event on Sept. 21st. 2007 Technically Speaking Dinner and Fundraiser

Technically Speaking Chairman Richard Lord provided information about the upcoming annual dinner and fundraising event at Best Western. Sponsor packages are: Producer $1,500 (receive 10 tickets), Director $1,000 (receive 4 tickets) and Rising Star $500 (receive 2 tickets).

Techie of the Year - Nominees of this award should be CTC members who volunteer their time and energy to support the Tech Council in ways that go above and beyond typical volunteer efforts. These are people who not only do what they say they are going to do, but often do much more. They care deeply about the Tech Council and it shows by their willingness to support many CTC efforts and events throughout the entire year.

Tech Company of the Year - Nominees of this award should be companies that are members of the CTC who have done the most to support the growth of the Tech Council. These are companies that have graciously donated their time, resources and expertise to the CTC and by doing so have allowed the CTC to evolve, strengthen and grow.

Individual and company nominations should be sent to Jeannine by Sept. 15. Winners will be announced at the dinner. More to come!
