General Announcements

Lynn Karr
Lynn opened the meeting and made announcement about Carroll Nonprofit Center office space. CTC has been given 522 sf in the new building in Westminster. Building to be open for occupancy by December 2005, or January 2006. It will have 4 workstations for CompuKids.
Regional Planning Conference to be held June 11 from 9-4pm. Carroll County Master Plan to be discussed. Free, RSVP extended to June 3.

Speaker – Stanley Prouser

Lynn introduced Stanley Prouser, who has served over 23 years as a Special Agent, having worked for the US Army, Assistant Chief of Staff for Intelligence, Social Security Administration, General Services Administration, Department of Transportation, Environmental Protection Agency, and Department of Defense. Stan will be addressing the rising concerns of identity theft, from the perspective of the business owner.

Stan said identity theft is #1 consumer complaint for last 5 years. 1 ID theft every 3 seconds / 28,800 a day. Average cost of $1,500 and 600 hours of time to clear name / credit. Stan handed out papers that had information on how to prevent and what to do after identity theft.

Event / Committee Reports

Golf Event
Netted about $8,600. Open to suggestions for improvement. Change course. Phil suggested starting earlier in the day. Tom Sullivan suggested not having on a Friday - Mondays are good.
Ask the Expert
Event upcoming in the Fall, "Ask the Expert." Hosted by CTC, Carroll Community College and CC Economic Development. Focus will be business to business
Technically Correct
Technically Correct to air e times / week in July on public channel 19, with some air time in June. Suggested to put all TV shows on the website as downloadable files. A press release will be sent.
CompuKids
Need modems and speakers for computers that are being supplied through Phoenix Project, and Maryland financed Board of Education program. Josh will be discussing with Phoenix Project the possibility of beginning a Carroll County office.
Volunteers are needed to help get computers ready for families. Not much is needed to finalize the computers from Phoenix Project. It was suggested that a different CTC Technology company take a set of 3 once per quarter to finalize.
By end of June, 4 will be placed in homes.
Membership
Second notices were sent to companies. 24 have paid / 27 unpaid / 2 cancellation requests. Welcomed David Anderson, new member last month, and Stanley Prouser, new member this month.

Additional changes to be made after meeting early next week.
Legislative Group
Westminster IT Plan
Robert Wack is heading up a Westminster IT Strategic Plan, as requested by Westminster's Mayor. His immediate thought was for assistance from CTC. It will have a broad scope: standards, applications, infrastructure, etc. It will begin this summer, and will present a five-year plan to begin 2006. Interested parties should contact Robert. This is all volunteer work.
Public Network Consortium
Report is due end of June. It will begin with a South Carroll Pilot: Mt. Airy - Schools, Library, Sr. Center., and Fire Station. Also, to have pilot in Westminster, Library, College, Fire Departments, etc. They are racing against time: Comcast changeover from Adelphia, and the pending Federal legislation to ban all municipal projects. Tech Council may need to weigh in on this issue.

Member Announcements

Lynn Karr
Lynn mentioned that beginning this Sunday, there will be a bi-weekly column in the Carroll County Times in the "In Focus" Technology Section. It will be written by our Advisors, and will help with awareness of the Tech Council and the Advisors.
