- It was announced that the Tech Council has been requested and agreed to participate in a Research Team Program for assisting the government, organizations and businesses in providing information related to technology. This will be in the areas of tech assessment, tech parks, broadband, etc. It will be a more focused program than the advisors are because of being project specific.
- Linda Gray-Niznik
- Linda Gray-Niznik reported that the Robotics Team finished the robot but needed to modify to keep the NASA grant. Financial help is still needed for the upcoming competition. Tom Rasmussen, New Windsor Bank, donated $200. Send any donations to Carroll County Foundation, P. O. Box 1070, Westminster, MD 21158.
- Golf Tournament
- An update was given on the upcoming Golf Tournament. Help is needed as well as support in the way of sponsorships. Currently Carroll Community College, The Reznik Group (Bronze sponsor), and ARHD have taken sponsorships. There is a need for hole sponsors as well. It was stated we are about 1/3 of the way there.
Speaker – Gary Davis
CIO of the Carroll County Board of Education
Gary Davis, CCTC newest Board Member, currently CIO of the Carroll County Board of Education gave a presentation explaining the plan for Carroll County Public Network Consortium. He explained how many times there is duplication of technology being used with the school, library, and colleges as well as the government. If everyone works together there would be more effective use of technology, better technology available, and better economics. Fiber optic seems to be the best choice since it is already in the county but an infrastructure needs to be created to effect the synergy.
The Consortium has individual organizations participating and need the technical people to cooperate. Dr. Wack has been helpful in getting the Cable Regulatory Commission to agree and we need to define how to best utilize. A presentation is being developed to show how organizations can be involved and help the community to understand how a 21st century community infrastructure attracts jobs and preserves an excellent quality of life in Carroll County. There is no real timeline but the Tech Council can help support by talking it up. CCPS has a sense of urgency.
