General Announcements

Josh Lohn
Josh called the meeting to order and introduced the Executive Team.
A presentation was made to the Carroll County Robotics Team, represented by Linda Gray-Niznik, of $500.
Lynn Karr was introduced as the newly hired Director for the CCTC.
Josh announced that 2005 is the Year of the Member. Speakers will be invited to the monthly meetings to speak on topics helpful to the members. The first being Todd Burrier who will speak today.

Training Team for Businesses at Carroll Community College

Karen Merkle introduced our first speaker Todd Burrier. Todd is part of the Training Team for Businesses at Carroll Community College. He also owns Outside the Box Business Solutions and JamPack, LLC. He spoke on how to maximize your customer base using referral strategies. Some of the topics were, Mining Your Referral Base, Rules of Conduct, Triangle of Trust, On Purpose Mining, 3 Things to Remember About Contacts and 3-Step Process to Mine Referrals.

Event / Committee Reports

Fundraising
Rich announced the Golf Outing scheduled for May 13 at Bear Creek. The goal is $15,000 which will be generated through sponsorships and registered foursomes. Lynn will help solicit volunteers for the event.
Finance
Phil explained the process and gave out the forms for filing 5 year exemption status. There is a $500 filing fee and the process is complicated. He will work with Isabel to post it on the web in pdf format.
CompuKids
Dave announced that 5 computers had been given to Dr. Wack for Access Carroll. The connection was that children will be part of the clientele. There has also been 9 operating system licenses bought so machines can be completed and placed.
TV Show
Denise reported they expect to air the first show in March using a new teleprompter.
Website
Isabel is working on links for the password. 4 new members were added and corrections requested have been made.
Membership
There were 4 new members in January bringing the total to 55.
Government Relations
Nothing to report.

Member Announcements

Bob Cage
Bob Cage announced ads were available in the Mt. Airy Chamber of Commerce/Kiawanis Directory.
Linda Gray-Niznik
Linda Gray-Niznik announced the upcoming Robotics Team Competition was to be held on March 17-19. Anyone interested can check on the kids after school on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at the Tech Center. She will give a report at the April meeting. There are 63 teams in the regional (east coast) competition and more in the national and international levels. The robot ships on Feb 22 to the Naval Academy. Fundraising will be continuing via letters and programs like Fuddruckers and Pizza Hut receipt nights.

Josh thanked Dave Shaffer for taking charge and making decisions on the computers for Access Carroll as well as Scott Adelman for donating the computers.
Christine Plater
Christine Plater from the State of Maryland Small Business Reserve made the attendees aware of state contracting opportunities for small business. Information is available at www.md.gov under state agencies, general services. She will send procurements to Lynn.
