Local Social Networking Site Offers 2010 Election Assistance

Westminster, Maryland (April 19, 2010) - OurCarroll.com, a social networking site for Carroll County, will make it easier for the public to understand the new election process. It will also help candidates running for office promote their campaigns and get direct feedback from constituents.

Throughout this campaign season, OurCarroll.com will highlight the new section "Election 2010" which includes step by step instructions for residents to find their precinct and district, interactive maps that will show which candidates are running for state and local representative slots, and an index of all candidates along with contact and platform information. Additionally, candidates themselves may include their own digital media such as videos, radio spots and photos.

The Community Media Center, CMC, Carroll County's public access media organization, runs the site and has invited political candidates to take part in OurCarroll.com's social networking to inform the public about their campaigns. State and local candidates will automatically be included in OurCarroll.com's Election 2010 index. The CMC will provide assistance, at no charge, for any political candidate who wishes to include additional information on their listing.

"The CMC has covered local political forums for the League of Women Voters and aired them on Carroll's public access cable station, Channel 19, for 14 years," said Marion Ware, the CMC's Executive Director. "As part of that process, we offer candidates the opportunity to videotape a 1-3 minute profile to air on Channel 19 throughout the campaign season which reaches over 33,000 cable subscribing households. Now we are using the Internet to extend our reach to people who use new technologies in addition to, or instead of, TV."

Candidates for political office can contact the Community Media Center at 410-386-4415 for additional information.
